Using Music and Song To Teach English Language Learners FILLING
Limited Capacity filling up

Music and song boost interest and engagement for all students but have special benefits for English language learners.  Music lowers the affective filter, giving children an enjoyable oral experience. Singing songs provides oral practice which doesn't feel like work.  Pop songs and country songs often include idioms and figures of speech which can help build communicative competence and understanding of American culture.  And non-vocal music also creates pictures in one's mind which can be useful as art or writing prompts.  This session will be totally hands on, sharing lesson plan ideas based on songs that you can use right away as well as guidelines for creating your own song lessons.
